Withdrawn amendment

An author may withdraw an amendment before it is called or during discussion, sometimes after receiving an explanation or commitment. A withdrawn amendment is not put to the vote and has no direct effect on the bill. Its status is therefore different from rejection, inadmissibility or lapse.

The author withdraws an amendment after the minister promises to address the issue separately.

Withdrawal is the author's decision; rejection is a decision made by a vote.
