Standing committee

A standing committee exists throughout the parliamentary term and has a defined field of responsibility. Its members examine bills, appoint rapporteurs, hear witnesses, vote on amendments and scrutinise relevant public policy. Its work prepares but does not replace the plenary decisions required by the procedure.

The Social Affairs Committee examines a health bill before it is scheduled in plenary.

A standing committee differs from a temporary inquiry committee and a bicameral joint committee.
