Secret ballot

A secret ballot protects the confidentiality of individual choices and is an exception to publication of parliamentary votes. It is used chiefly for elections or appointments, such as the election of the President of the National Assembly. The collective result is announced, but no official data links an MP to a particular choice.

MPs elect the President of the National Assembly by secret ballot.

A secret ballot does not mean that the sitting itself is secret.
