Parliamentary oversight

Parliamentary oversight complements law-making and operates through questions, hearings, inquiry committees, information missions, reports and budgetary scrutiny. MPs and senators use these instruments to obtain information and hold public authorities accountable. At the National Assembly, oversight can extend to procedures that challenge the Government's political responsibility.

A committee hears a minister, publishes a report and follows up on implementation of a policy.

Oversight is not limited to motions of no confidence and does not directly annul administrative decisions.
