Legislative shuttle

The successive consideration of a bill by the National Assembly and the Senate until they agree on the same text.

The French navette parlementaire is the movement of a bill between the two chambers. Each chamber examines the version transmitted by the other and may amend provisions still under discussion. If disagreement persists, a joint committee may be convened and, in certain cases, the National Assembly may ultimately be given the final say.

The Assembly amends a Senate text and sends the new version back for another reading.

The shuttle concerns the passage between chambers, not transfers between a committee and the plenary sitting.
