French Parliament
The national institution comprising the French National Assembly and Senate, which passes laws and scrutinises the Government.
The French Parliament is bicameral: MPs sit in the National Assembly and senators in the Senate. The two chambers consider legislation, scrutinise Government action and evaluate public policy. They usually seek agreement on legislation, although the National Assembly may have the final say in specified circumstances.
A bill is considered by both the National Assembly and Senate before promulgation.
The French Parliament is not the National Assembly alone and is separate from the Government.
