Fast-track procedure

Under the fast-track procedure, the Government may seek a joint committee after a single reading in each chamber instead of waiting for the ordinary number of readings. The procedure accelerates consideration but does not remove committee examination, debate or parliamentary votes. The Constitution provides a mechanism through which the Conferences of Presidents may jointly oppose its use.

After one reading in each chamber, the Government convenes a joint committee to seek agreement.

Fast-track does not mean that the bill is adopted without parliamentary consideration.
