Deletion amendment
An amendment proposing to remove all or part of a clause, paragraph, sentence or specified words.
A deletion amendment seeks to remove wording rather than replace or add to it. It is called in the procedural order before many narrower modifications to the same passage. If adopted, amendments dependent on the deleted wording may become moot.
An MP proposes to delete Clause 2; amendments changing only that clause may then lapse.
If the deletion amendment is rejected, the targeted wording remains under consideration.
Removes specified wording
Usually called before narrower changes
Can cause other amendments to lapse
